A work conversation sparked a discussion on what things were on our list of ‘to do’s’ today. Ukulele lessons, playing the sax, finally learning how to play the piano and learning a language were all things bandied about in a quick ten minute splurge of excitement.
While we sat there and revisited the things on our list – it was very apparent in every one of us that these items had become our pile of ironing. The mounds of clothes that you never get round to and always put off until another day. Another day because we are simply to busy to handle the task today. Another day because it involves effort on our part. Another day because deep down the task seems too big to tackle………. today. The problem is another day seldom comes and then our clothes simply don’t fit anymore, you forget about them or they go out of fashion!!
We often let our little wishes slip and instead they play second fiddle to the bigger things going on in our lives – work, gym, relationships, friends. However these little wishes need to be tackled – they need to be dissected and broken down into manageable tasks.
Don’t think of the end goal all the time. If you want to learn Spanish, don’t think of becoming fluent in Spanish in its entirety as this seems a massive commitment and lot of hard work. Instead take it step by step. Why not buy a beginners audio book that you can listen to on your commute each day. Imagine listening to this on your way to and from work, perhaps moving up to the next level when you feel confident. Now does half an hour or even one hour dedicated to absorbing this information within your normal commuting time seem doable? Right, so what if you were to do this for several months, do you think you might find yourself becoming a lot more confident in the Spanish language? Me too.
Now what are you waiting for – go dissect your wishes and make them come true!
